I do not think disability culture yet exists. Its mostly been a fantasy up to this point because ppl stuck in the back room and waited on hand and foot is not culture, its isolation, and torture.
Look around on a daily run to do errands: its about transportation and politics and architecture that has culture...and that's not society or community. PPL with Disabilities have chips, on their backs, in their legs, in their hands, and on their minds.
Culture may exist in forums, but is George Magazine culture? I say be careful, ppl come in from a million different perspectives and it is rude to assume and judge ppl on anything more than the basic rights by law.
Respect ppl EVEN if they are high-income, just listen to the way the public treats school teachers and the salary they get, or how salespeople are treated who bring entertainment for free but businesses balk at paying commerical fees?
And think of how often a person treats another rudely on the telephone. Face to face interviewing is the only way to go. And how often do pwd talk to each other on a friday night? I usually am the one who will start conversations, approach ppl with disabilities, and I have enough pressure just being a pwd. And above all, culture has to include love, love is live sustaining and the spirit that fills a soul.
And YES I AM OBTAINING A COLLEGE EDU. would it matter if I was not??
