Employment Opportunities
Working for VSA arts of New Mexico offers opportunities to combine interest in the arts, education, and human services.
If making a difference is important to you, and you have an interest in the arts, consider employment with VSA arts of NM.
In the Enabled Studio Arts Program there is an opportunity for using your background in the arts and/or working with persons with disabilities. The studio curriculum includes visual, performing, literary, and media arts.
Services are provided under the regulation of the NM State Department of Health and employees are required to complete the training program mandated by the Long Term Services Division, as well as professional development opportunities offered by VSA arts of New Mexico
Artist-teacher positions use teaching, and mentoring skills to support the creative growth of adults with disabilities. Part-time and substitute positions are ideal for working artists who enjoy teaching but need to have enough time to devote to their own work. Minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in studio art or art education, and an interest in working with persons with disabilities.
Training instructors provide personal care for participants and may assist in studio classes. Training instructors may also lead some employment or life-skills classes. Minimum qualifications are: at least 18 years of age, a high school diploma (or equivalent) and an interest in both the arts and providing personal care and assistance to persons with disabilities.
Program Aides provide personal care for participants and other tasks as needed in the studios. This is an excellent entry position for introduction to the career field. Minimum qualifications are: at least 16 years of age and an interest in the arts and persons with disabilities.
In addition, there may be openings in administrative support, development , finance, and job development and coaching.
In some positions, a valid driver's license and clean driving record is required.
For consideration in any position, a completed application and resume are required. Former employers are contacted for references. A signed release form allowing a background check is required. The state required background check includes motor vehicle and court records. Fingerprint records search is part of the process. Random drug testing may be required.

There are also opportunities for volunteers in each of the programs and VSA arts of NM uses residencies to bring guest artist into the studio setting. Inquires about internships are encouraged, as well.
